Rocks on excavator, city stops work – NBC Boston

On Thursday morning, numerous first responders were present at an industrial site in Sterling, Massachusetts. The incident led to an emergency meeting of the city’s committee.

Apparently rocks had fallen on an excavator on Chocksett Road. There were initially few details about the incident – it was not immediately clear if anyone was injured. NBC10 Boston has reached out to local authorities for information about the incident.

At an emergency meeting on Thursday morning, the Sterling Select Board issued a cease-and-desist order against earth removal on the site.

The Sterling Fire Department said there was no danger to the public but urged people to avoid the area.

The site, a waste disposal operation, is owned by Onyx Corporation, which said in a statement Thursday morning that it would close all of its sites over the weekend. NBC10 Boston has requested more information.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has referred questions related to the incident to the Mine Safety and Health Administration.

As the situation developed, over a dozen ambulances, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles were on site.
