Robert Wagner arrested: Man from Point Pleasant allegedly stole plane and crashed it near the New Jersey coast

CORBIN CITY, New Jersey (WPVI) — A New Jersey man accused of stealing a plane and later crashing it near the New Jersey coast now faces a number of charges, according to state police.

According to police, Robert Wagner, 42, of Point Pleasant, is charged with attempted felony, criminal damage, burglary, trespassing, theft, receiving stolen goods, obstruction and obstruction of justice.

On Wednesday morning around 8:55 a.m., police responded to Main Street in Corbin City, Atlantic County because a suspicious man came out of the woods.

The suspect told police that his plane had crashed in a meadow in the area.

According to police, the man refused to give his name and was therefore arrested for obstruction of justice.

Investigators later learned that Wagner had recently been arrested in Pemberton and was wanted for stealing a Quad City Ultralight Challenger 2 aircraft from a Pemberton hangar.

The aircraft registration provided by Pemberton Police matched the stolen aircraft in Corbin City.

During the interview with police, Wagner confessed to two burglaries in Corbin City and the theft of the plane, state police said.

He is currently being held in Atlantic County.
