The Philadelphia Phillies suffered a terrible 7-2 loss to the New York Mets in Game 3 of the National League Divisional Series and are just one game away from elimination.

Heading into the postseason, there was a lot good about the Phillies this season. They entered October with a strong starting rotation, a good bullpen and a star-studded lineup. However, it was a difficult stretch of baseball for Philadelphia over the three games.

In Game 1 of the NLDS, they spoiled a great start for Zack Wheeler as their bullpen imploded in the loss. Although the bullpen once again put up crooked numbers in Game 2, the Phillies’ bats were fortunate enough to save them from a 2-0 series deficit.

Additionally, the Phillies came up short against Sean Manaea in a crucial Game 3, where the winner usually wins the series.

Entering Game 4, Philadelphia’s back is against the wall in a win-or-home game. After Tuesday’s defeat, coach Rob Thomson spoke about his belief in the team and their ability to be resilient.

“I told them it’s the most resilient club I’ve ever been at,” Thomson told MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki. “That’s what they’re all about. For them it’s all about toughness, fighting and playing together. That’s what we have to do. Just focus on one game.”

This Phillies team has shown the ability to be resilient and they have already done so in this series. In Game 2, Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos had strong performances for Philadelphia, ensuring they didn’t travel to New York with a two-game deficit.

In Game 4, the Phillies will have to fully focus on beating a Mets team that played excellent baseball. Philadelphia will put Ranger Suarez on the mound against Jose Quintana, as we’ll likely see an all-hands-on-deck approach for the Phillies with the season on the line.

If Philadelphia can find a way in Game 4, they will have their ace back on the mound in Game 5 at home, as they would have to fancy their chances in that scenario.

After an amazing regular season, the Phillies should be very confident that they can win two straight against the Mets, but they need to make sure their lineup is patient and that their bullpen forgets some of the poor performances so far in the NLDS.
