Rideshare drivers in Las Vegas praise Trump’s ‘great’ plan to not tax tips while Harris holds a rally across town

As Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz prepared for a campaign rally on the famous Vegas Strip in Las Vegas on Saturday, rideshare drivers joined together to express their support for former President Trump’s plan to eliminate taxes on tips.

In June, Trump announced he would introduce a tax exemption for tips for workers, targeting those who earn a large portion of their income from tips, such as taxi drivers, hotel workers and waiters.

“The hotel workers and the people who get tips are going to be very happy because when I get into office, we’re not going to have a tax on tips. … This has been a point of contention for many, many years, and you provide great service, you take care of people and I think that’s something that’s really deserved,” Trump said at the time.

Trump’s announcement came around the same time that Senators Ted Cruz (Republican of Texas), Steve Daines (Republican of Montana), Rick Scott (Republican of Florida) and Kevin Cramer (Rennsylvania) jointly introduced the No Tax on Tips Act.

Busy ride-share drivers in Las Vegas, who did not want to give their last names or remain anonymous, told Fox News Digital they would likely vote for Trump after he promised not to tax tips.

Reed, a registered Democrat who has said he plans to vote for Trump this fall, said the plan is just another reason why he is excited to open the campaign trail for the former president.

“For me personally, that would be wonderful – that’s great,” Reed said as he drove west on Tropicana Boulevard toward the resort in New York, New York.

Reed added that a friend of his also works in the service sector and receives nearly half of her annual salary from tips. The woman had previously been “in no way a Trump supporter or fan,” he said.

“Until he made the comment that there was no tax on tips. … Now she’s willing to vote for Trump for that reason alone.”

Michael, who was waiting for a passenger at a nearby casino, called the plan “great.”

“I’m a registered independent,” Michael said. “And (Trump) will get my vote.”

Another driver, who did not want to give his name, called the plan “really good.”

“I don’t like what this politician (President) Biden is doing. Everything is expensive,” he said, adding that in addition to the tip tax, rising gasoline prices had also hurt his profits.

He added that expenses such as gas and taxes are eating into his take-home pay since his ride-sharing employer also takes its share.

Ruiz, an immigrant from Cuba, said his “overhead costs” have increased in recent years and he would support the measure.

Adanis said in Spanish that the policy was “better for me,” adding that he hoped the next president would also lower gasoline prices.

He shared other drivers’ concerns that taxes, fuel and maintenance costs, and the ride-sharing companies’ share of the financial pie are making it increasingly difficult to earn enough money in his profession.

Another driver made a similar claim, noting that the rising cost of ridesharing overall is pushing people toward cheaper, subsidized but slower public transit.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Trump campaign team for comment.
