RFK Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard to run for Trump in 2nd District after Walz visits Harris • Nebraska Examiner

OMAHA — Nebraska’s 2nd District is getting a Trump response to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s second campaign visit on behalf of Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday.

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign is sending two former Democrats to Omaha who have made controversial statements in the past: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard.

Both will speak at 6 p.m. Saturday as part of Trump’s “Reclaim America Tour,” a campaign effort in which two of Trump’s better-known surrogates will target undecided women and neutral voters, a Trump campaign official confirmed.

The event will take place at the Hilton Omaha Downtown. Entrance is at 4 p.m. The event will be moderated by Leo Terrell, a civil rights attorney.

Kennedy is reportedly still running for president as a third-party candidate. In August, he paused much of his campaign and announced his support for Trump.

His campaign has removed his name from the ballot in states where his presence could hurt Trump, including Nebraska, election officials confirmed. He stayed in states where he could help or retired too late.

Kennedy, an environmental lawyer, advocates for eating healthier, less processed foods. He has been increasing criticism of the safety and effectiveness of vaccines for years.

Gabbard, a former congresswoman from Hawaii who served in the Hawaii National Guard, is known for her military service in the Middle East and her opposing views on national defense.

She has criticized US efforts to arm Ukraine against a Russian invasion as provocative. She has questioned U.S. regime change efforts against some of Russia’s allies, including Syria.

She ran for president as a Democrat in 2020 and battled Trump’s opponent, then-U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-California, in the presidential primary that President Joe Biden won.

Both have been vocal supporters of a second Trump term, with Kennedy frequently arguing that he is ready to take on the entrenched bureaucracy and intelligence community.

At these events, Gabbard was often vocal in her support for Trump’s position that the United States was safer when the nation led from a position of perceived strength.

Tim Walz returns to represent Harris in Nebraska’s 2nd District on October 19th

Critics of the two surrogates said at previous stops that both Kennedy and Gabbard were rejected by voters and did not represent a real constituency among bipartisans and people still deciding how to vote.

Jane Kleeb, chairwoman of the Nebraska Democratic Party, said Nebraskans are “tired of Trump’s darkness and division.” She said RFK Jr. and Gabbard were “far outside the mainstream and another reminder of the extreme agenda that Trump promotes.”

“Governor Tim Walz will present a very different vision on Saturday: He and Vice President Harris are focused on bringing our country together, protecting reproductive freedom and ensuring every Nebraskan has the opportunity not just to make ends meet but to get ahead said Kleeb.
