Due to the recent litigation, the North Carolina Board of Elections will not accept the mobile UNC One Card as a voter ID, and the state board has notified county election officials of this decision. This means that students and employees are not allowed to use their mobile UNC One Card as a voter ID in the general election – neither for absentee voting nor for voting in person.

This decision only affects the mobile One Card. Student and employee physical UNC One Card IDs may continue to be used as voter IDs.

Students and staff who only have a mobile One Card must make other arrangements to present other accepted forms of voter ID. Here are some resources available to students and staff:

  • How to get a physical One card: Students and employees who require a physical One Card as a voter ID can request one from the One Card Office. A physical One Card without the chip technology of the standard One Card is available free of charge to all faculty, staff and students who have purchased only the mobile One Card.
  • Other Acceptable Forms of Voter ID: Students and employees may use any other acceptable form of voter ID published by the State Board of Elections on its voter ID website.

Visit the One Card website. If you have questions about your residency or voter registration in general, visit the North Carolina State Board of Elections website.
