Rebranding Bally Sports to FanDuel Sports Network, including Detroit

Detroit sports fans can officially say goodbye to Bally Sports.

Diamond Sports Group, which owns Bally Sports and broadcasts Detroit Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons games, announced Friday that its regional sports networks will be renamed “FanDuel Sports Network” on Monday.

A total of 16 regional sports networks operated by Bally Sports will now operate under the FanDuel Sports Network brand, including in Detroit.

This means that Bally Sports Detroit will now appear on screens as FanDuel Sports Network Detroit.

FanDuel has become one of the leading sports betting and casino brands in recent years as sports gambling has grown by leaps and bounds. It is legal in more than half the states in the country, including legalization in Michigan in January 2021.

Friday’s announcement comes after years of uncertainty for Diamond and Bally Sports due to a seemingly endless bankruptcy battle. In early October, Diamond announced his intention to give up the rights to the Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays in a status conference in federal bankruptcy court.

That meant the Tigers either had to renegotiate their contract or find a new TV home for their games in 2025. Since the news broke, there has been no word on what the Tigers plan to do and whether they will appear on the TV show FanDuel Sports Network is not clear at this time.

Meanwhile, the Red Wings and Pistons reached an agreement with Diamond before the season to continue broadcasting their games through the 2024-25 season.

While the specific financial arrangements were not disclosed, both FanDuel and Diamond issued statements.

“Working with FanDuel provides Diamond with a tremendous opportunity to enhance the fan experience and deepen the value we provide to our team, our league and our distribution partners,” said David Preschlack, Diamond CEO. “This partnership provides new opportunities to further strengthen our close connection.” RSNs have been working with local fans, including improving our DTC offering to a growing digital audience. In the meantime, as we finalize agreements with the NBA, NHL and our key distribution partners, we remain focused on driving our business and driving value for our team partners and our stakeholders.”

“Partnering with Diamond provides us with the opportunity to place the FanDuel brand at the intersection of the nation’s largest group of regional sports networks,” said Mike Raffensperger, FanDuel sports president. “A large cohort of FanDuel customers are loyal RSN viewers and.” This agreement allows us to further solidify the FanDuel brand among sports fans and provides a unique means of rewarding our users.”
