RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – The Rapid City Public Library has thousands of books to read, offers space to create, and events for anyone who stops by, but also offers services for those who can’t make it to the library.

The library has a bookmobile that brings the library to the community. You can sign up for a library card, borrow books and other items, and even use notary services. Another service offered by the library is home delivery.

The service is available to individuals with physical disabilities who live in the Rapid City Area School District. Deliveries are made once a month and users can borrow any number of books, board games, videos, DVDs, e-readers and more. These items are swapped out when the next month’s shipment arrives.

Stephanie Jenner, outreach specialist at the Rapid City Public Library, said about 60 to 70 people use the home delivery service.

“They can tell me exactly what they want to read, or give me an idea of ​​what they like, and then I’ll do my best to track down what they’re looking for and get it to them,” Jenner said.

Doris Peck, who turned 101 on Thursday, started reading after she retired. Thanks to the delivery service she has used for more than 20 years, she reads about four books a month.

“I started reading 6 a month and then it slowed down a little bit. Now I read about 4 a month. And they deliver them, and they pick up the ones I’ve finished reading and send me new ones. They’ve just been so good,” Leck said.
