Rain and Storms for Halloween; much cooler Friday ahead | Oct 31, 2024 – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana traffic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) Widespread showers will move in later this morning, along with gusty winds and a few thunderstorms.

This morning:

The temperatures are again very mild and windy this morning. We are watching a line of storms along the Mississippi River this morning, following a cold front and moving east.

Thursday:

A cold front will move through during the day, causing isolated showers and thunderstorms from morning to afternoon. There will be a few rumbles of thunder during the late morning hours, but the greatest chance for severe weather, which is limited, should be limited to southern Indiana, where gusty winds will be the main threat.

The most consistent rain should have stopped here by late afternoon. High temperatures will reach into the lower 70s.

Trick or Treat Hours:

There may be a few lingering showers for early trick-or-treaters this evening, but as the evening progresses we should look for reasonably comfortable temperatures and mostly cloudy skies and windy conditions.

Thursday evening:

Skies will clear quickly overnight as much colder air moves into the state. Overnight, Lowe’s will fall into the upper 30s and lower 40s.

Cool Friday:

Dry conditions with Canadian high pressure will set in on Friday. High temperatures will be near the seasonal average of early November, with highs reaching into the upper 50s.

Warming this weekend:

Another warming trend begins as we head into the weekend, with highs returning to the 60s on Saturday as high pressure moves east. There will be a warm front moving in Saturday night into Sunday that will cause scattered showers and thunderstorms during the second half of the weekend.

Set up muddy next week?

The active weather pattern continues through the first half of the work week, with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible on Monday. A cold front moving through on Election Day could lead to more widespread showers and thunderstorms.

Due to the seven-day precipitation potential, a few inches of precipitation is possible across central and especially western Indiana through the middle of next week.

Advanced forecast:

Meanwhile, temperatures will remain above average through the first few days of next week, with highs reaching the mid-70s through Election Day and not falling back into the mid-60s until Wednesday next week.
