Rain and storms are possible late Monday as the weather front arrives

A storm system will impact northwest Oklahoma and the western half of Kansas on Monday, bringing the risk of some showers and thunderstorms to those areas.

What’s the weather like on Monday?

Most of this activity will remain northwest of our immediate region, but some isolated showers and storms could approach along and northwest of I-44 late Monday evening and early Tuesday morning.

Temperature timeline.

The chance of measurable precipitation remains at or below 30%. Gusty southerly winds 15 to 25 mph are expected Monday afternoon, with afternoon highs in the lower 80s.

Before the system moves into the area later Monday evening, fire spread rates will increase this afternoon due to gusty southerly winds combined with drying vegetation and ongoing drought.

There is a risk of fire on Monday.

How is the weather this week?

After seeing a slight chance for a few spotty showers late Monday night into the early hours of Tuesday across far northern Oklahoma, highs Tuesday afternoon will reach the upper 80s to lower 90s, with winds from the south at 10 to 15 mph subside.

Another front approaches the state Wednesday afternoon and evening, bringing another very slight chance for a few isolated showers or storms in far northern Oklahoma or southern Kansas during the afternoon and evening.

The front will stall and become diffuse late Wednesday, with southerly winds and warm weather continuing through Thursday.

This front finally gets a push southward on Friday, bringing with it a slight cooling over the weekend.

High temperatures this week.

A few showers or storms may accompany the front as it slides south into southeastern Oklahoma late Friday evening into early Saturday morning.

Highs on Friday will reach the upper 70s to lower 80s. This weekend will feature lows in the 50s and highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s.
