After an injury to Texas football quarterback Quinn Ewers, Arch Manning entered the game.

With a 14-0 lead and 12:19 remaining in the second quarter, Ewers began limping off the field after a handoff before falling to his knees and play was suspended. Manning, a redshirt freshman, has taken Ewers’ place in the UT huddle as the Longhorns try to secure their third win of the season.

On his first play, Manning faked a handoff and threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Moore Jr. to give UT a 21-0 lead.

This is the second appearance of the season for Manning, who was signed as a five-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting cycle. Manning played in the second half of the game against Colorado State on August 31 and scored two touchdowns in that 52-0 victory.

Ewers returned in civilian clothes because he had sustained what Steve Sarkisian called an abdominal injury.

Before his injury, Ewers had completed 14 of 16 passes for 185 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Before the game, Ewers had thrown for 506 yards, six touchdowns and one interception, sparking rumors of a Heisman Trophy candidacy.
