Primary elections begin with early voting as election nears | News, Sports, Jobs – SANIBEL-CAPTIVA



Early voting for the August 20 primary election has begun and will run until August 17.

Voters from Sanibel and Captiva can cast their vote early at 12 locations throughout Lee County from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Early voting locations for everyone, regardless of their voting precinct, are as follows:

– Bonita Springs Election Office, 25987 S. Tamiami Trail, Unit 105, Bonita Springs

– Cape Coral Election Office, 1039 SE 9th Ave., Cape Coral

– Cape Coral-Lee County Library, 921 SW 39th Terrace, Cape Coral

– East County Regional Library, 881 Gunnery Road N., Lehigh Acres

– Estero Recreation Center, 9200 Corkscrew Palms Blvd., Estero

– Fort Myers Regional Library, 1651 Lee St., Fort Myers

– Fort Myers Housing Authority, 4224 Renaissance Preserve Way, Fort Myers

– Lakes Regional Library, 15290 Bass Road, Fort Myers

– Lee County Elections Center, 13180 S. Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers

– Lehigh Acres Election Office, 600 Homestead Road S., Unit 9, Lehigh Acres

– North Fort Myers Recreation Center, 2000 N. Recreation Park Way, North Fort Myers

– Northwest Regional Library, 519 Chiquita Blvd. N., Cape Coral

The following local elections are open to everyone, regardless of party affiliation:

– Lee County Real Estate Appraiser

Incumbent Republican property appraiser Matt Caldwell and his Republican challenger Steve Cunningham have both qualified. The seat is for a four-year term from 2024 to 2028.

– Lee County Election Commissioner

Incumbent Republican Election Commissioner Tommy Doyle and Republican challenger Michael “Mick” Peters have both fulfilled the requirements. The term of office is four years, from 2024 to 2028.

– LEE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD: DISTRICT 7

Candidates Vanessa Melbis Chaviano, Sheridan Chester and Joshua D Molandes have qualified. The seat is for a four-year term from 2024 to 2028. School board members are non-partisan officers.

Florida has a closed primary election, so island voters registered with the Republican Party can also vote in the following local elections:

– LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS: DISTRICT 3

Republican candidates David Mulicka and Matthew Thornton have qualified. The seat is for a four-year term from 2024 to 2028.

– LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS: DISTRICT 5

Incumbent Republican 5th District Commissioner Mike Greenwell and Republican challenger Amanda Cochran have qualified. The seat is for a four-year term from 2024 to 2028.

The ballot also includes positions for U.S. senators and district judges.

The primary election will take place on August 20th from 7am to 7pm. On election day, voters may only cast their ballots at their assigned polling station. The polling stations on the island are as follows:

– District 105: The Community Center, 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel

– District 116: Sanibel Recreation Center, 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road, Sanibel

The deadline to return a postal ballot is August 20 at 7 p.m.

In-person ballots can be dropped off at any Lee County election office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or on Election Day, August 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Mail-in ballots can also be returned to the secure ballot drop-off point at early voting polling stations.
