Preview: The record champions visit the Holstein Stadium

On Saturday evening, football Germany will be looking to Kiel: In the top Bundesliga match, FC Bayern Munich will be playing at the Holstein Stadium. The duel between our KSV Holstein and the record champions, which many fans have been waiting for, will kick off at 6:30 p.m. under floodlights.

Everything new at FC Bayern? Not quite. Although the personnel carousel at the serial champions has been spinning quite a bit, the squad is still peppered with experienced players who have been wearing the FCB jersey for years. The Munich team has been led by Vincent Kompany since this season. The 37-year-old is the new head coach at Säbener Straße and succeeds Thomas Tuchel on the coaching bench. As a player, Kompany played for Hamburger SV, among others, and has already played at the Holstein Stadium once as a defender: in the first round of the cup in 2007, he won 5-0 with HSV.

While KSV Holstein still has no points after two match days, the Munich team won their first two games (3:2 in Wolfsburg, 2:0 against Freiburg). In the DFB Cup, both teams advanced to the second round, with FC Bayern winning 4:0 against Ulm in the first round.

Many current players in the Bayern squad probably don’t have the best memories of the Holstein Stadium. After all, our storks won the last meeting in January 2021. After a penalty shootout, the final score was 6:5 for the home side – equivalent to the sensational elimination of the record champions.

But the conditions for the upcoming showdown are different: instead of a cup duel, it is the top Bundesliga match and instead of sleet and sub-zero temperatures, late summer weather is expected. Nevertheless, our storks will do everything they can to ensure another surprising home victory against the Munich team.

Personnel situation

Colin Kleine-Bekel will definitely be out (rehab after cruciate ligament tear). Steven Skrzybski (calf) and Andu Kelati (knee) are questionable ahead of the game on Saturday evening. Due to a red card suspension, our head coach Marcel Rapp will not be on the bench, and will be represented on match day by his assistant coaches Dirk Bremser and Alex Hahn.

Arrival and arrival

Due to construction work, federal highways 503 and 76 (B503 and B76) will be partially closed on match day. A diversion has been set up, but restrictions may apply. You can find more information here. Since the police are also temporarily setting up a technical barrier at the petrol station, there may also be disruptions in the immediate vicinity of the stadium. You can find all the information you need to plan your journey as best as possible here.

For stadium guests arriving by car, we recommend the Nikola Tesla car park (Koboldstrasse 1) in the Science Park, which offers a special Holstein rate: From two hours before kick-off and up to two hours after the final whistle, spectators at Holstein’s home games can park there for five euros. A new option is the possibility of parking your car in the parking areas of the Lubinus Clinicum. There are 100 parking spaces available there. The KVG offers a special service on match days with the X91 bus line: The bus runs every 15 minutes from the main station directly to the stadium and returns at the same frequency from the stop on Westring until two hours after the final whistle.

Information for away fans

There is a new car park for away fans on Leibnizstrasse. Shuttles run from there to the Holstein Stadium. More information is available here.

Note: According to §4 paragraph O of the KSV Holstein stadium rules, when attending home games at the Holstein Stadium, it is prohibited to be outside the guest area with fan paraphernalia from teams other than Holstein Kiel. The KSV asks that you respect and adhere to this.

Information for home fans

Haven’t secured a jersey for the top game yet? Our KSV Holstein home jersey is now available again in the fan shop at the stadium. The shop is open from the stadium entrance on match day and can be entered with a valid ticket.
