Preview: Senators vs. Panthers, October 10, 2024

Tonight’s game marks the second time in franchise history that the Senators will host the Florida Panthers in the team’s home opener. In the first game on January 21 of the shortened 2012-13 season, Ottawa emerged victorious with a 4-0 victory. Current Senators assistant coach Daniel Alfredsson recorded an assist in that game.

If recent history is to set a precedent, Sens fans can expect a turbulent game tonight. Any time captain Brady Tkachuk faces his brother Matthew, it’s sure to be an exciting game – especially between two teams like the Senators and Panthers.

In last season’s home game against the Panthers on November 27th, the two teams combined for a total of 167 penalty minutes, including 12 individual 10-minute game infractions. This is not the first time such a game has taken place between Ottawa and Florida. As of April 6, 2023 of the 2022–23 season, the Senators and Panthers combined for 166 penalty minutes.

The Senators hold a franchise all-time record of 57-47-3-6 against the Panthers and will look to continue their preseason momentum in today’s game.

Linus Ullmark, who just completed his four-year contract extension, will be in goal for Ottawa tonight. “What better way to start the season than playing against the reigning Stanley Cup champions?” said Ullmark after the team’s morning skate. “Speaking of personal experiences: it was always great fun playing against them. They always bring their A game, they are always so well coordinated and they play tough hockey that is hard to beat. It’s no coincidence that they were in two finals in a row.”

Senators fans can’t just look forward to exciting ice hockey tonight. Those attending the game are asked to arrive early – 3:00 p.m. – to enjoy all of the pre-game festivities planned for the evening. For a full breakdown of what fans can expect, check out today’s Sens setup HERE!
