Preview of the 2024 women’s football season

AUSTINTexas – The 2024 season has begun for the Concordia Texas women’s soccer team, and after a promising preseason, the Tornadoes are ready to officially take the field. Under the guidance of Andy Tunnicliffe, who has served as head coach for six years, Concordia Texas impressed in their two tryouts last week. The Tornadoes defeated Houston-Victoria 4-0 at home and drew 2-2 on the road with Division II opponent St. Edward’s.

Squad outlook
After a hard-fought 2023 season that saw a new program record of eight ties, the Tornados are now poised for a breakthrough with six of their seven All-Conference players from last year back on the team.

Also returning for CTX are six key rotation players who each played over 500 minutes last season. Jada Bradford, Pauline B., Madelyn Murphy, Maddie Oberholtzer, Jenna TownsleyAnd Emma VisserCoach Tunnicliffe has also done an excellent job in recruiting and has brought a healthy mix of newcomers and newcomers into the team. Newcomers Alex Smithwick and Emma Payne both scored their goals in the friendly match.

TIMELINE OUTLOOK
The Tornados begin the regular season this Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Huston-Tillotson. Concordia then turns right around and hosts UMHB on Labor Day at 7 p.m. CTX will play three away games over the next two weeks, including two games against Whittier College (Sept. 6) and California Lutheran (Sept. 8). They then return home for two games, starting on Sept. 21 (Senior Night) against Howard Payne and Sept. 24 against SAGU.

After concluding non-conference play with a rematch against UMHB on September 26, SCAC play begins two weeks later on October 4, where they host Schreiner in their first-ever SCAC game. Conference play consists of 10 games, with the regular season finale taking place on Sunday, November 3, at Texas Lutheran University.
