After ending their five-game losing streak, the New Mexico State Aggies will look to make it two straight losses when they visit the FIU Panthers at Pitbull Stadium tonight.

Since both teams are on the lower end in terms of offensive performance, my predictions for the New Mexico State vs. FIU game are for the under.

My analysis
After five straight losses – including the last two games in which they scored over 50 points each – the New Mexico State Aggies prevailed with a 33-30 2OT victory over Louisiana Tech.

But New Mexico is far from settled. In fact, they currently rank 127th out of the 133 schools in the FBS in yards per game, averaging just 289 yards per contest. The Aggies have an average running attack, allowing 161.9 yards per game.

They will likely rely on the ground game against the FIU Panthers, who are allowing 194.1 yards per game. However, FIU’s pass defense is top-notch in C-USA, limiting opponents to 184 yards per game.

The Panthers’ offense is slightly less abysmal than NMSU’s, totaling 308.5 yards per game, while a rush attack only manages 104.2 yards.

FIU is averaging just 15.5 points per game through four conference meetings. Despite scoring a bonanza in its last game, New Mexico averaged 14.3 points in its four C-USA games.

The numbers add up to a low-scoring trip to Miami.

Under 43.5

Seth McGowan Over 65.5 rushing yards

Eric Rivers under 4.5 receptions

There’s really only one thing the Aggies consider average at, and that’s running the ball.

Seth McGowan rushed for 66 yards in the win against Louisiana Tech, the second time in his last three games that he surpassed his rush line of 65.5 for Tuesday. FIU has been overrun all year, and there’s no sign of that stopping now.

It’s been a nightmarish run for FIU pivot Keyone Jenkins. He has been extremely ineffective since injuring his shoulder against Texas El-Paso two weeks ago and was subbed off after missing nine passes against Sam Houston.

Jenkins’ inconsistency is the reason Eric Rivers caught just three balls, breaking a streak in which he had at least five catches in four straight games. I think Rivers will suffer while Jenkins struggles to find his form.
