Barcelona host one of their most feared opponents on Wednesday evening, while Bayern Munich return to the Catalan capital, this time to Montjuic. Hansi Flick’s new team will welcome his former team in what many are calling his squad’s first litmus test.

The Blaugrana are also bringing players back from injury, with Frenkie de Jong, Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez and Gavi providing timely reinforcements for Flick ahead of this clash and Saturday’s Clasico game. Ferran Torres, Marc Bernal, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia make up the injured list.

Lopez will be supported by both Sport and MD at the launch, which would mark the first time since the Paris Olympics this summer. Otherwise, there will be no surprises on the Catalans’ side because, as Flick revealed last week, Inaki Pena remains in goal ahead of Wojciech Szczesny.

Bayern’s line-up is less certain, as they will have to do without Aleksandar Pavlovic, Sascha Boey, Ivan Stanisic and Hiroki Ito. Jamal Musiala returned to training this week and Vincent Kompany is sweating on his fitness. If he doesn’t start, Thomas Müller will be in his place, between Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise and behind Harry Kane.

Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich, both of whom have been linked with Barcelona in recent months, will both start. The German would not rule out a move to Barcelona next summer as both are out of contract next summer. Midfielder Konrad Laimer is most likely to fill in at right-back with Boey and Stanisic out, although Sport believes Raphael Guerreiro could switch flanks and play on the right instead.

Barcelona have three points in the Champions League group stage, as do Bayern, who both suffered surprise defeats to Aston Villa and AS Monaco in their first two games.
