Power and supply vessels are now arriving at Port Tampa Bay gas stations

As Tampa Bay residents struggle to find fuel in the wake of Hurricane Milton, relief may be on the horizon as progress is being made on fuel distribution at Port Tampa Bay.

The port announced on Friday evening that all seven private fuel terminals had had power restored. Safety tests were carried out to ensure that the fuel could be distributed without problems. Some gas station operators had already started delivering tank trucks that delivered to local gas stations on Friday.

On Saturday morning, port spokeswoman Lisa Wolf-Chason said Friday evening’s press release was the most current update.

The port said in the news release that it hoped all seven terminals would be fully operational by Saturday and that more ships carrying fuel would arrive at the terminals.

“Port Tampa Bay is proud of our status as an energy gateway port and we take our role in storm response seriously, providing fuel for vehicles and aircraft to nearly half of the state,” the release said.

As of Friday afternoon, more than three-quarters of gas stations in Tampa and St. Petersburg had no power, gas or both, according to GasBuddy, a tracking website. Statewide, nearly 30% of stations were out of service. The website was not updated with new numbers as of Saturday morning.

On Friday evening, a Tampa Bay Times reporter noted that many residents were still desperate for fuel, waiting in long lines at several local gas stations.
