Postal worker hit by city garbage truck receives more than $5.5 million

LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla. – A Palm Beach County jury awarded postal worker Christy Trimbath more than $5.5 million.

She was hit by a city garbage truck while getting mail from her delivery truck and was thrown five meters.

Trimbath’s lawyer said the accident left her unable to work.

WPTV broke the story of Trimbath’s accident and his problems in June.

Lake Worth Beach attorney Ann Breeden then argued that the surveillance camera video should not be shown to the jury because it was disturbing, violent and graphic.

Trimbath’s attorney, Scott Smith, responded that the video was the “best evidence we can present to the jury to test our facts in this case.”

The video was allowed to be shown during the week-long trial, which ended with the jury awarding the former mailman $5,647,314 in damages.

In order to collect the money, the Florida State Legislature must approve the grant as an appropriation.
