Possible Listeria contamination affecting nearly 200 Philly schools; Find out which ones

A possible listeria infection is causing families of students in the Philadelphia School District to worry about their children’s health.

The district released a letter Friday alerting families that certain chicken products served to students are subject to a nationwide recall due to possible listeria contamination. Almost 200 schools and thousands of students are affected.

These locations, meals, and dates indicate where and when the food was served:

  • Pre-K: Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo Penne (served October 8)
  • Substitute for preschoolers with a food allergy: Chicken Strips, Honey Mustard, Green Beans (served between October 4th and 10th) and Chicken with Caribbean Pineapple Sauce, Rice and Carrots (served between October 4th and 10th)
  • K-12 Locations: Chicken with BBQ Sauce, Rice, Baked Beans (served September 23, 2024)

The District further stated that the USDA Division of Food Safety and Inspection has not received any confirmed reports of adverse reactions to the food served and recalled.

The district has provided a link to the various K-12 and PreK sites involved, which can be found here.
