Chappell Roan got into an altercation with a photographer at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.

As Roan posed for photos on the red carpet on Wednesday night, the pop star got into a heated exchange with a photographer who yelled, “Shut up.”

She immediately turned around, pointed her finger at the photographer after the rude comment and replied: “Shut up.”

The “Good Luck, Babe!” singer added, “Don’t do that! Not me, bitch!” A voice could be heard in the background cheering her on, saying, “Tell ’em, girl!”

The 26-year-old later explained what happened during the tense encounter.

“It’s pretty overwhelming and pretty scary. For someone who is very scared of people shouting at you, the carpet is horrific and I shouted back. You have no right to shout at me like that.”

“It’s pretty overwhelming and pretty scary,” Roan told Entertainment Tonight. “For someone who is very scared of people yelling at you, the carpet is horrifying and I yelled back. You have no right to yell at me like that.”

On the red carpet, Roan wore a sheer maroon dress. Her medieval-inspired look included a sword, a light green cape, a large cross necklace and long pointed nails.

During the show, she sang her hit single “Good Luck, Babe!” and won the award for Best New Artist.

The “Pink Pony Club” singer’s viral red carpet appearance came after she had previously accused some fans of stalking, harassment and “predatory behavior” in scathing social media posts.

“For the past decade, I’ve been working on my project nonstop and I’ve reached the point where I need to set boundaries and limitations. I want to be an artist for a very, very long time,” she shared in a lengthy Instagram post.

“I just need to make it clear and remind you that women don’t owe you anything,” she added. “I chose this career path because I love music and art and honor my inner child. I do not accept harassment of any kind because I chose this path, nor do I deserve it.”

Roan reached out to her fans after experiencing “non-consensual physical and social interactions.”

The singer drew a fine line in her statement after pointing out “predatory behavior” which, as she clarified, was “disguised as ‘superfan’ behavior.”

“Please stop touching me. Please stop acting weird around my family and friends. Please stop making assumptions about me,” she pleaded.

“There’s still more to the story and I’m scared and tired. And please don’t call me Kayleigh,” she added, referring to her legal first name. “I feel more love than I’ve ever felt in my life. I feel more unsafe than I’ve ever felt in my life.”

The “Casual” singer became a megastar after her performance at the 2024 Coachella Festival went viral. The pop star has 4 million followers on Instagram and another 3 million on TikTok.
