Poltergeist house is for sale for the first time since the ghost film’s release for $1.2 million

The house where the classic horror film poltergeist filmed, is officially for sale and the real estate agent promises that the building is free of any “ghost stuff”.

Filming locations are always popular with movie fans, but this four-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom home in Simi Valley, Calif., was a major character in the 1982 film when it came to life and terrorized a family who moved in.

In the film, directed by Tobe Hooper, the family must contend with ghosts, a child-stealing tree and hidden portals to another dimension.

Lauren Murdock, who holds the listing at Equity Union, promises there are no portals or ghosts. Instead, she says, large windows allow plenty of natural light into the home, and there’s a built-in office space and four spacious bedrooms upstairs.

This is the first time in 45 years that the Roxbury Street house has been for sale, she says, and the listing has already attracted a lot of attention.

The 2,400-square-foot house was newly built when the filmmakers first saw it, Murdock says, and the large lot made it easier for the crew and all their equipment to produce.

According to Murdock, the 15,000-square-foot lot could be ideal for new homeowners to build a pool house or additional living unit for extra income. It could also provide enough space for an RV or boat. The home is currently priced at about $1.17 million.

In the horror film, the backyard is dug up because the family is building a new pool. However, the excavations reveal that the house was built on a cemetery.

Now there’s a pool and hot tub, which the listing says are “ideal for cooling off on hot California days or hosting epic pool parties.”

But unlike in the movie, it wasn’t built on a cemetery. According to the listing, it’s close to schools, parks, shops and restaurants, but not interdimensional portals.

Fans of the film will recognize many parts of the house, including the kitchen and living room, which were featured in several iconic scenes in the film.

Homes made famous by popular films can sometimes be difficult to sell, especially those in the horror genre, but Murdock says she quickly decided to delve into the subject. poltergeist A house.

“There will be buyers who won’t buy it because they think it’s haunted,” she says, but others will be attracted to being part of Hollywood history.

“It’s better to tell everyone what it is and have fun playing with it.”
