Police: Food Lion employee found dead in freezer of North Carolina supermarket

A Food Lion employee was found dead in a freezer at a company store in Raleigh, North Carolina, earlier this week, police said.

Raleigh police told Fox News Digital that they responded shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a dead person at the chain’s grocery store in the 4500 block of Capital Boulevard, about two miles northeast of downtown Raleigh.

According to local reports, police were called to the scene after colleagues found the body.

The deceased man, whose identity has not yet been established, suffered a medical emergency. Foul play is not suspected, reports WFMY News 2, citing police.

CB17 reports, citing a police officer, that the man suffered the seizure on Monday evening before dying in the freezer.

This incident is being investigated as part of a “death investigation,” a Raleigh Police spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

A Food Lion spokesperson told Fox News Digital that they were “deeply saddened by the unexpected loss” of one of their employees.

“As always, the safety and well-being of customers and employees is Food Lion’s top priority every day, and we are committed to ensuring a safe workplace and shopping environment. We are providing resources to support our employees during this difficult time.”

Food Lion, a regional supermarket chain, is headquartered in Salisbury, North Carolina, and operates over 1,100 stores with more than 82,000 employees, according to the company’s website.

It was founded in Salisbury in 1957 as Food Town and operated independently until it was taken over by the Belgian conglomerate Delhaize Group in 1974.
