Police are accused of acting “hysterically” when they claimed an assassination attempt on Trump was being planned

A conservative activist said police acted “hysterically” when they arrested a man who allegedly tried to kill Donald Trump Newsweek.

Mindy Robinson, who said she is both a friend and business partner of suspect Vem Miller, said he is a Trump supporter and poses a threat to everyone. “The fact that he is released on $5,000 bail proves that they know he is not a threat. They’re just mad that they’re about to get a lot of egg on their face for going along with it as hysterically as they did,” she added. Robinson is an actress and a well-known figure in conservative circles, which she hosts Conspiracy truth Show on America Happens, a news site.

Miller, of Las Vegas, was arrested Saturday after guns were found in his car outside a Trump rally in California’s Coachella Valley, authorities said. He was taken into custody after officers found a shotgun, a loaded handgun and a large magazine in his car, according to a news release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The arrest occurred at 4:59 p.m. at a checkpoint near Avenue 52 and Celebration Drive, about a half-mile from the rally entrance. Miller was driving a black SUV when he was pulled over. After his arrest, he said he was a partner in America Happens.

Newsweek contacted the Riverside Sheriff’s Office and Trump’s campaign via email Monday seeking comment.

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, a known Trump supporter, said, “We probably stopped another assassination attempt,” according to the Southern California News Group.

Miller was being held at the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio, California, on charges of possession of a loaded firearm and a large capacity magazine.

Miller was released on $5,000 bail Saturday and is scheduled to appear at the Indio Larson Justice Center on Jan. 2, 2025, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department inmate database.

Robinson, who is known for her anti-government views, recounted Newsweek that authorities should have researched Miller’s background better.

“Apparently authorities didn’t spend any time scouring his social media or they would have realized he was both a Trump supporter and an investigator doing a lot of work against government corruption,” Robinson said.

“I’m waiting to speak to him in person, hopefully in a few hours,” she added on Sunday evening.

“It sounds like he was targeted because he had sovereign license plates, and I’m not sure where or who this ‘threat against the president’ came from because I don’t see any evidence of it anywhere.”

Sovereign plates, associated with libertarians and anti-government groups, are license plates that display a personal message instead of a license number.

A Sept. 12 article on the website of Kansas news station KSNT Topeka said that citizenship signs “may display words such as ‘Private’ or ‘Free Man'” and that this is not legal.

“This incident did not impact the safety of former President Trump or those attending the event,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Miller posted a video online after his release in which he said he was a Trump donor who had been invited to the rally by the California Republican Party.

Miller added that police made defamatory comments about him and that he always had firearms in the truck of his car. He said the suitcase contained a shotgun and a Glock firearm. He described himself as a former Barack Obama supporter who later switched to Trump.
