Yesterday, Firewalk Studios and Sony revealed the extensive post-launch content plan for Concord, the new first-person squad shooter set to launch next week. In previous communications, the studio was quick to explain that Concord would not have a Battle Pass“Concord belongs to you, but you don’t own Concord,” Gameplay Animation Director Mark DeRidder said at the time.

But make no mistake: Concord will indeed have microtransactions. They just won’t be in the game at launch. Firewalk is instead launching the mtX store with Season 1, which begins in October. So, in theory, players will have about 2 months of playtime without earning any in-game money.

“With Season 1, we are also introducing an in-game store for those who want to further personalize their Freegunners with additional customization items and continue to support the game. These complement the hundreds of rewards that can be earned through progression and are purely cosmetic, optional in nature and have no impact on gameplay,” the studio said in the PS blog post.

Firewalk explained some of the cosmetic options, which range from personalizing the Freegunner, including accessories like sunglasses, rings, earrings, and optional attachments, to weapon and character skins.

Sony’s live service strategy jumps back and forth between specific destinations. Like Helldivers II, Concord will release for an additional $39.99 and offer optional in-game purchases. The difference between Helldivers II and Concord, however, is that Helldivers II’s mTX isn’t just cosmetic—Arrowhead sells items that have a tangible impact on gameplay—and Helldivers II also has a Battle Pass.

That won’t be the case with Concord. Instead, Firewalk is making all future content available for free – at least that’s the plan right now, and in the world of live games, things can and often do change – including new playable characters, maps, and game modes.

Concord will be released on PS5 and PC on August 23rd and will cost $39.99 at launch.
