Pittsburgh Steelers players are tired of George Pickens’ antics

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers have struggled with a variety of offensive issues this season. From inconsistent quarterback play to injuries on the offensive line, the Steelers haven’t gotten off to the best start on that side of the ball.

The latest problem, however, has been the actions of star wide receiver George Pickens. After Pickens wore eye black with vulgar language in the Week 5 loss to the Cowboys, he came under fire for his apparent lack of effort in the game and an incident with Dallas cornerback Jourdan Lewis for which he was fined.

Then there are reports that Pickens has been late for action “several times” this season.

According to Steelers writer for The Athletic, Mike DeFabo, in an appearance on 93.7 The Fan, Pickens’ teammates are tired of his antics.

“I’m not speculating, I know that there are players who are fed up with it. It’s not because I’m making things up or trying to put myself in these players’ shoes. The players told me that, that they’re kind of like, ‘Come on,'” DeFabo said.

This wouldn’t be the first time the Steelers have struggled with a star wideout, as issues with Antonio Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster and others have plagued their past. Previously, quarterback play and other skill positions could compensate for this.

That doesn’t appear to be the case this season, as Justin Fields’ inconsistent quarterback play leads to a possible start for Russell Wilson in the future. Additionally, Pickens’ lack of depth will keep him in the spotlight all season long unless he moves on to another star midseason.

Pickens’ snaps were limited in Week 5 and he wasn’t impressive with the snaps he played. It’s not great to get beaten up in professional sports at any level, but it’s especially bad when your own performance can’t back it up.
