Pinyon Ave Murder Case identified, case discussed

BIG JUNCTION. Colorado (KREX) – The head and hands found in the 2900 block of Pinyon Avenue in January were identified Friday.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office released the identity of the person, Amanda Leariel Overstreet. Officials believe she was 16 years old at the time of her disappearance in April 2005.

A neighbor told WesternSlopeNow back in January, “On top of that, I think there was a pile of pure animal flesh when they were clearing it out to pack it up and there was a black bag and they opened the bag and a human head fell out of here.”

Wendy Likes, public information officer for the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, states, “I know a lot of people are really concerned about how much time this case is taking.”

MCSO, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and other local agencies have been investigating the murder since January. Overstreet’s remains were found in a freezer in a home at the time.

“As far as I can tell, the gentleman was looking after his mother, there were never really any people there,” the neighbor said.

The neighbor told WesternSlopeNow that her son moved in with her after losing his father, Bradley David Imer, Amanda’s stepfather and the home’s former owner. He died in 2021 from cardiac arrest and COVID. However, the question remains as to Amanda’s whereabouts.

“We are coming to clear the huge amount of property left in the house. There was one freezer left. She posted it on a social media site. said, “Hey, if you want a freezer, get it.” “These people came, showed up and obviously the freezer was very heavy because it was full and when they started unloading it, they spotted them,” said Likes.

The circumstances of her disappearance remain under investigation and the evidence continues to be forensically examined.

Likes explains: “It’s incredibly sad that no one knew she was there. No one we know knew she was missing. That no one has taken the time to find out where this child was or what happened to him, and that’s why we’re taking the time to make sure we answer all of those questions.”
