Phoenix Suns continue preseason against Detroit Pistons

PHOENIX – The first games of the 2024-25 NBA season are scheduled to take place exactly two weeks from today – the Phoenix Suns will give the starting signal just one day later.

Until then, the Suns – especially their role players – will look to continue building camaraderie over the next four games, starting tonight with a game against the Detroit Pistons in East Lansing, Michigan.

Phoenix is coming off a dramatic 118-114 comeback win over the Los Angeles Lakers and will look to continue the momentum built over the course of the second half on Sunday.

Here are three things to keep in mind before starting the game.

Ryan Dunn and Oso Ighodaro both made an impact in their respective NBA debuts – with Dunn knocking down two corner kicks for three-pointers and Ighodaro showing an outstanding all-around game.

Tonight, the two intriguing prospects will face a Pistons team that likely won’t show much resistance on the perimeter – and that should be much easier to manage on the defensive side of the ball compared to the Lakers.

Keep an eye out for the freshmen and watch them continue to show growth on the field.

The former No. 1 pick phenom is now entering his fourth year in the NBA after three seasons filled with injuries, poor organizational infrastructure and other factors that have stunted his potential growth.

Cunningham had a decent performance against the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday and appeared to have progressed as an all-around player – particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

The Pistons’ talent appears to have improved, and new head coach JB Bickerstaff will look to maximize the Studs’ PG – he’ll be the player of most interest to the Suns today, regardless of playing time allotted.

Wins and losses don’t play as big a role in the preseason, but Phoenix will continue to work on the new offensive philosophy while improving the depth of the entire squad.

The newfound mentality that seems to be ingrained in the team will serve them well as the regular season begins – after showing clear cracks in the first month of the 2023-24 season – and this game tonight will be another opportunity to demonstrate the changes.

The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. Arizona time.
