PG&E plans to cut power to thousands of people in the North Bay amid critical fire weather

More than 4,000 Pacific Gas and Electric Co. customers in Sonoma and Napa counties are at risk of having their power shut off as early as Thursday evening due to critical fire weather conditions, more than double the number of originally planned local shutoffs, according to the utility’s latest update.

On Thursday morning, PG&E announced that shutoffs were “required” in some locations, increasing the number of customers who could be without power sometime between Thursday and Saturday.

The energy supplier could switch off the electricity from Thursday at 4 p.m.

Affected areas include eastern Sonoma County with some spots east of Rohnert Park; Santa Rosa; Cloverdale; and Sonoma.

In Napa County, almost all areas outside the valleys and east of Lake Berryessa are potential closure areas.

More than 20,000 customers in 24 counties could see their power temporarily shut off in the next few days.

Here’s how many locally could be affected:

  • Sonoma County: 1,010 customers, 23 Medical Baseline customers
  • Napa County: 3,103 customers, 135 Medical Baseline customers
  • Lake County: 1,088 customers, 83 Medical Baseline customers
  • Mendocino County: 13 customers, 4 Medical Baseline customers

Those who have their power shut off can visit one of four resource centers set up in Sonoma and Napa counties. All are open on Thursdays from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

  • First Congregational Church of Sonoma – 252 W. Spain St., Sonoma
  • Healdsburg Community Church – 1100 University St., Healdsburg
  • Pacific Union College – 35 La Jota Drive, Angwin
  • Calistoga COMmunity Center – 1307 Washington St., Calistoga
