Packers return to work after humiliating business trip to Denver

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Jordan Love had one of his best practices of training camp this year, but guard Elgton Jenkins stole the show in the final game.

A pair of throws from Love to receiver Romeo Doubs early in the team’s period set the pace for the practice. Love also distributed the ball to Doubs, Luke Musgrave, Josh Jacobs and Tucker Kraft in the two-minute period to set up a field goal that could have tied the game.

The duo Love and Doubs attempted a possible touchdown in “Goal to Go” in the final phase, but the pass was intercepted by Jaire Alexander.

Quay Walker blocked Love’s final attempt of the day, but it landed right in the arm of Jenkins.

Later in the locker room, Jenkins joked that he once played tight end in his youth, which was evident in his one-handed catches and when his offensive teammates pushed him down for a “big man touchdown.”

Last weekend, the Pack had a rather “humbling” experience in Denver, starting with joint practice on Friday and then losing 27-2 to the Broncos in a preseason game on Sunday.

After the game, head coach Matt LaFleur was visibly frustrated with his team’s performance.

“That’s why it’s always good to say less to you guys after the game because I kind of felt, and after watching the video, I don’t think I really appreciated it – our guys played hard, they were strained. We made a lot of mental mistakes and didn’t always execute and that’s why we struggled. But you could see it even from the first play of the game to the last play of the game when they ran the football, I mean we had 10 hats on the frame, when you hit the pause button there were 10 bodies on the ball. So our guys definitely played hard,” Matt LaFleur said.

Now the focus is on the joint training with the Ravens on Thursday and on whether or not the regular players will play in the preseason game on Saturday.

“Yeah, I mean, they’re certainly young players that haven’t played yet, so you’d like to get them in there and see them play a little bit. I think as a young player, you never get enough game practice. So we’ll see if they’re ready, and if they are, we’ll see them out there,” LaFleur said.

“Yeah, definitely, man. To see a little bit before we go to Brazil, that’s going to be crucial. It really depends on the coaches. If J-Love is out there, that one offensive line is going to be out there. That’s basically what it comes down to,” Elgton Jenkins said.

One young player who will be looking to practice more in the coming days is linebacker Edgerrin Cooper. The rookie was only able to participate in individual drills when he returned to the field after a nearly three-week layoff due to a hip injury.

“The best feeling ever. I think that was probably the longest time I’ve spent without football, without missing anything and stuff. It was mentally tough and sometimes things happen, but that’s the thing about being a professional. You just have to do what you can,” said Egerrin Cooper.

His rookie colleague MarShawn Lloyd is still out after suffering a thigh injury in the season opener against Cleveland.

Running back AJ Dillon (stinger), tight end Tyler Davis (shoulder) and tackle Andre Dillard (shoulder) also did not practice on Tuesday.
