The National Park Service (NPS) will implement climate restoration projects that primarily involve young adults from American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam. Through paid internships at the National Park of American Samoa, American Memorial Park, and War in the Pacific National Historical Park, interns will work alongside NPS biologists, cultural resource specialists, and other conservation staff on climate restoration projects.

Why? This project supports youth interns who assist the NPS with invasive species removal, native plant propagation, reforestation, habitat monitoring, and other maintenance activities. These activities are necessary to protect the natural and cultural resources in the parks for the enjoyment of present and future generations.

What else? This project will support the parks’ mission to strengthen support for island residents and do important work to restore habitat and protect threatened species. Program participants will learn civic responsibility and citizenship values through participation in conservation and preservation activities. The NPS will also encourage youth to connect with their communities. In addition, youth will learn the importance of stewarding resources.
