Oregon fans react to Jordan James’ big run to open the game against Michigan State

The Oregon Ducks faced their true first Big Ten opponent when they hosted the Michigan State Spartans in Eugene in Week 6 of the 2024 season. While the first quarter was characterized by some offensive weakness but defensive strength, a Duck had an outstanding start to his Big Ten career.

Third-year Duck Jordan James exploded the first time Oregon took the field, outrunning nearly every single Spartan that was on the field.

With his first carry, James broke through the defensive line and collected a whopping 41 yards in just one play. A few plays later, James was pounding the Spartans left and right as he secured a first down.

Oregon fans and football fans in general reacted accordingly to James’ performance in the opening minutes of the Big Ten matchup

The Ducks donned their all-yellow uniforms and welcomed Michigan State to the West Coast and the newest territory in Big Ten country.

James’ run, which brought down a handful of players along the way, earned rave reviews from fans as they became aware of the demolition zone that brought James onto the field at Autzen Stadium.

During the game, commentators and fans even compared James to some Oregon running backroom legends like Bucky Irving and Jonathan Stewart, both of whom left their mark on the Ducks’ football program.

At the end of the first quarter, the Ducks only had a 7-point lead, but James had already gained 83 yards on just 8 carries. As Oregon and Michigan State entered the second quarter, the Ducks led 7-0.
