Opening of a bar for women’s sports recordings in Atlanta in 2025

ATLANTA, Georgia (Atlanta News First) – Caitlin Clark may be the most popular athlete in North American sports, but for those who want to watch WNBA games, finding a suitable place to do so isn’t always easy.

Former college soccer player Chelsea Fishman wants to change that, at least in Atlanta.

“I mean, my favorite sport is soccer,” Fishman said.

She came of age in the 90s during the famous 1999 Women’s World Cup. Names like Chastain, Hamm and Scurry shaped her childhood.

“Like any women’s sports fan, we always wanted a place that was like a sports bar, but for women’s sports,” Fishman said.

Fishman set out to do just that and wanted to bring a women’s sports bar with a fitting name to Atlanta.

“Jolene / Jolene / Jolene / Joooleeeene,” sings Fishman, not quite in the same key as Dolly Parton in 1973.

Fishman is currently working on the final details of the exact location of the bar, named after her cat and the cult hit, but is targeting a March 2025 opening.

“I would love it to be the place where when you think of women’s sports, you think of ‘Jolene Jolene,'” she said.

Of course there are haters too. “Why?” is something she often hears.

“I guess some people just don’t see the value in celebrating women’s achievements,” Fishman said.

But the cool thing about sports is its ability to break barriers and create new boundaries. Fishman wants Jolene to be a place for the masses.

“Jolene Jolene is for everyone,” she said. “No matter what kind of fan you come in as, hopefully you leave as a women’s sports fan.”
