One of the worst TV shows of all time just hit Netflix

Thanks to AMC, a whole host of great series are now available on Netflix, including the excellent historical horror survival drama The Terror which I highly recommend. You can catch all the new AMC shows that just came out on Netflix here.

In addition to these great series, some not so great AMC offerings have also been added. The mediocre Walking dead spin off Daryl Dixon was added about a month before the second season was released. And all eight seasons of Fear the Walking Dead were also added to Netflix.

This is without a doubt the worst The Walking Dead and truly one of the most painfully bad shows I’ve ever seen. That’s a shame because the first three seasons were pretty good and season 3 was truly one of the best of all The Walking Dead seasons. But when new showrunners took over in season 4, things went rapidly downhill.

I’m still disappointed about it. Just when the show was finding its rhythm, it changed so drastically. It was hardly recognizable as the same show anymore. Morgan (Lennie James) came over from the main show and basically became the lead actress in Fear, which completely changed the tone and direction of the series. I’m still not sure why they didn’t just start a new spin-off starring Morgan instead.

The focus shifted entirely to the Clark family – Madison (Kim Dickens), Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) and Nick (Frank Dillane) – and two of the characters were written out of the series entirely. Everyone who remained became what I call Morganites, joining his strange cult whose motto was “We have to help people make up for the bad things we’ve done.” Each season saw a parade of new villains emerge, each one becoming increasingly ridiculous and implausible.

It is also a shame because Fear the Walking Dead had so many incredible actors. Even in the later bad seasons, we have actors like Garret Dillahunt (as the friendly gunslinger John Dorie), Keith Carradine, John Glover, and Matt Frewer. There is actually some kind of crazy crossover between the cast of that show and dead wood, with Dillahunt, Dickens, Carradine, Ray McKinnon and Dayton Callie Deadwood Alumni.

Unfortunately, a strong cast couldn’t make up for the ridiculous script, which somehow got worse with each season. Season 7 had the survivors fighting over an office building in a radioactive wasteland. Season 8 had an organization that gave everyone bird nicknames. I can’t even remember how many ridiculous Mexican standoffs there were last season, but it was pretty absurd. Last season also saw the return of Kim Dickens’ Madison, even though she died in season 4 (she had only mostly dead) and Troy Otto (Daniel Sharman) in a desperate attempt to increase ratings.

I still recommend the first three seasons, but only watch the rest if you’re in the mood for a good laugh. This show is so bad it’s almost fun to watch.
