The basketball kick-off at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris is scheduled for Saturday, July 27.

Both the men’s and women’s tournaments begin on the same day, with 12 countries on each side vying for the gold medal.

The USA is considered the favorite to win both fields, with superstars like LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant leading the men’s team and A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart and Diana Taurasi headlining the women’s team.

The format of the Olympic basketball tournament at a glance

At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, twelve countries will compete in both the men’s and women’s tournaments, divided into groups of four.

Each team will play against the other three countries in its group. The first and second placed teams in each group, as well as the two best third placed teams, will qualify for the eight-team knockout round.

The quarter-final pairings will be determined by a draw based on the seedings. Teams from the same group cannot play each other in the first round of the knockout phase.

Once these pairings are determined, a standard knockout system will be played to win the gold medal.
