Olivia Munn is tired of being insecure and proudly shows off breast cancer scars in new photos

Olivia Munn She wasn’t planning on showing the world her post-mastectomy scars when she signed up to star in Skims’ latest ad campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but she was inspired to do so when she was on set for the photo shoot.

“When Skims approached me to do this campaign, it was just about doing their shapewear and their new leggings, and it wasn’t about my scar at all,” she said Today on Wednesday. Then an outfit change prompted a makeup artist to begin concealing the scars from Munn’s double mastectomy and reconstructive surgeries that were part of her breast cancer treatment. Munn had an idea.

“We were in the middle of the shoot and we were changing an outfit so we could see more of my scars, and so the makeup artist touched up my scars, and then we got to the double mastectomy scars, and those were really hard to do. “cover it up,” she said. “And then I looked in the mirror and just thought, I’m tired of worrying about my scars.”

The actress, who announced in March that she was diagnosed with Luminal B breast cancer in both breasts, has frozen her eggs and, in addition to her mastectomy and reconstruction, also underwent procedures to remove her fallopian tubes and ovaries.

As she told fashion in May: “Aggressive cancers need aggressive treatments.”

She and husband John Mulaney welcomed their second child together, daughter May Junevia surrogate mother in September, giving birth to her son Malcolm a big brother.

Instead of letting the makeup artist camouflage her scars, she asked a question, Munn said.

“I said, ‘What do you think about showing my scars in this campaign?’ And they were so amazing and thoughtful and wonderful. And we talked about it and decided to do it,” she said.
