Ole Miss Rebels QB Jaxson Dart named Top 25 Golden Arm Award finalist

Ole Miss star quarterback Jaxson Dart has seen no shortage of national attention so far this season, and another example of national recognition has been added to the signal-caller’s long list of accomplishments.

Dart was named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Top 25 finalists list on Thursday, a group comprised of some of the nation’s elite quarterbacks that Dart has more than proven he belongs in.

So far this season, Dart has thrown 127 of 173 balls through the air (a completion percentage of 73.4), passing for 2,100 yards, 13 touchdowns and just two interceptions, making him the nation’s leading passer. In addition, Dart ran 44 times for 156 yards and scored three scores.

This Saturday’s game against LSU in the Magnolia Bowl will be a big opportunity not only for Dart, but for the entire Ole Miss team to clear up some doubts that arose after the Rebels’ loss to Kentucky. But for Dart specifically, a big showing in Baton Rouge would only bolster his status among the country’s elite and add legitimacy to a campaign for the Golden Arm Award.

That’s likely to be difficult with top target Tre Harris listed as questionable, and Dart will certainly have a tall task ahead of him. But when Dart ranked third all-time in passing yards in Ole Miss history, he proved he could distribute the ball and still make plays.

The Tigers and Rebels will kick off in Baton Rouge on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game is available on ABC.
