Oklahoma State starts Alan Bowman, Garret Rangel is out

Oklahoma State quarterback Garret Rangel, who started Friday’s game at No. 13 BYU in place of Alan Bowman, will be out “for a while” after suffering an upper-body injury in the first half.

Coach Mike Gundy did not comment on the injury, but Rangel was seen in a sling on the sideline during the second half. Rangel left the game after a 54-yard run and Oklahoma State radio reported that he had a collarbone injury.

“He’s going to be out for a while,” Gundy said, adding that he couldn’t predict when the redshirt sophomore would return.

Rangel completed 6 of 9 passes for 51 yards with one touchdown and one interception while adding 77 rushing yards on five carries.

Bowman, who has struggled with accuracy and consistency, will start in Rangel’s absence. He had 85 passing yards with one touchdown and one interception and added three runs for 19 rushing yards while leading the touchdown drive that ultimately resulted in a 38-35 loss to Oklahoma State.

Bowman, a seventh-grader, led the offense in 2023 as Oklahoma State made a surprise run to the Big 12 championship game.
