OSU will be without its leading tackler, safety Trey Rucker, who did not travel with the team to Provo, Utah, for Friday night’s game against BYU, according to a report.

According to Robert Allen of PokesReport.com, Rucker is said to be dealing with a leg injury he suffered against West Virginia.

In addition to Rucker, the Cowboys defense will be without starting middle safety Dylan Smith and backup defensive end Jaleel Johnson, according to Dave Hunziker on the Cowboy Radio Network. Hunziker said Parker Robertson and Lyrik Rawls are expected to start in the secondary.

The Cowboys could have a few veterans back in the game with the return of right tackle Jake Springfield and linebacker Justin Wright, although the pair’s involvement is unknown.

Backup quarterback Zane Flores also did not travel to Provo because he had lower leg surgery during the week that will keep him out for the season.

  • Opportunities: BYU at 8.5

BYU 30, Oklahoma State 16: The Cowboys show promise but ultimately cannot solve their defensive problems as BYU’s ball control game plan creates an effective and efficient running game. Ollie Gordon II makes a few big runs, but not enough to turn the tide.
