OKC Thunder is a good bet to cover against Rockets on October 9th

Oklahoma City is in the middle of its preseason and started with a bang as the Thunder won impressively in San Antonio as two undermanned opponents met.

After picking up a 112-107 win on Monday, the Thunder moved to 1-0 against the spread, and Thunder on SI also did well. The Utah Jazz cruised to a 122-113 win over the Houston Rockets on Monday, dropping the plucky team that looked good playing against its starters.

The Thunder are the 4.5-point favorite according to FanDuel, which seems like a great line for Oklahoma City, although preseason games are the most impossible bets.

Against San Antonio, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Lu Dort were sidelined due to rest, as were Jaylin Williams, Kenrich Williams and Nikola Topic, who will remain sidelined, and the Thunder still had the depth needed to not only beat the Spurs , but also to cover the spread.

Now the Thunder get their superstar and defensive ace back while only missing the three truly injured players. While it’s unclear who will and won’t be playing for the Rockets at this point, the trend of regular rotations being dropped early in the second half gives Oklahoma City a strong lead in this game.

Meanwhile, OKC needs to give Gilgeous-Alexander, Dort, Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren, Alex Caruso, Isaiah Hartenstein, Aaron Wiggins, Isaiah Joe and their two rookies protocols before fully committing to them.

While it’s easy to sleepwalk or overlook key events, the Thunder should have momentum heading into their first game on their home court and their first game as a assembled unit that includes their superstar.

The bet: OKC Thunder -4.5

The record: 1:0
