Norway’s heir to the throne comments on the controversy surrounding his sister’s wedding

With only a few days left until the wedding of Norwegian Princess Märtha Louise and her brother has commented on the controversy surrounding her big day.

Crown Prince Haakon spoke to journalists about the problems that arose before Martha Louise’s wedding to Durek Verrett. The two will marry on August 31, 2024 in Gerainger, Norway.

Only a few days ago it was confirmed that the wedding would be covered exclusively by Hello magazine and its sister publication Hola. This has sparked criticism in the press.

The couple had previously run into trouble after it was claimed that the gin brewed to mark their wedding and labelled with the word “Princess” breached the terms of an agreement Martha Louise had made with her family not to use her royal title for business purposes.

While attending a conference on North Sea oil in Stavanger, Crown Prince Haakon answered questions from the press about many of the problems currently facing the Norwegian royal family. The most serious problem remains the ongoing police investigation into allegations by several women of physical assault against the Crown Prince’s stepson, Marius Borg Hoiby.

The Norwegian heir to the throne spoke out on the issues, telling reporters that it was a “very serious” matter but that he could not give details for legal and police reasons. His wife and Marius’ mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was criticized for speaking to the alleged victim of the attack outside of the police investigation.

Crown Prince Haakon also answered questions about his sister’s wedding. He told the press: “First there will be a wedding and we are looking forward to it,” before adding: “There is an agreement that we assume will be kept.”

This was seen as an indication that there could be further changes to the agreement in the future. Martha Louise renounced all her patronages when the contract was signed and her new husband will not receive a title upon their marriage. She will, however, retain her title as princess, although she is forbidden from using it commercially.

The Norwegian Royal Court has already confirmed that no member of the royal family will appear in photos for the magazines or in the Netflix show, which will also revolve around the princess and her fiancé.
