It’s another big October weekend for live music in New Orleans with a few festivals, an arena-level neo-soul act and more.

NOLA FUNK FESTIVAL

FRIDAY-SUNDAY, OLD US MINT

The second annual NOLA Funk Fest takes place all weekend at the Old US Mint and the New Orleans Jazz Museum. Listen on Friday Soul ProjectThe New Orleans Nightcrawlers, Corey Henry & the Treme Funktet, Eddie Roberts & the Lucky Strokes, The Suspects from New Orleans with the Dirty dozen horns, George Porter Jr. & Runnin’ Partners and closer to 8 p.m Great Freedia.

Saturday’s squad has something to boast about River Eckert, Jamal Batiste Band, The John “Papa” Gros Band, Good Enough for Good Times, Tribal Gold with Great Chief Juan Pardo, Blues legend Bobby Rush, Dumpstaphunk, the Soul Rebels and headliners Geo Leowith bass player George Porter Jr.guitarist Leo Nocentellidrummer Stanton Moore and keyboard player Ivan Neville plays Meters music.

Jason Neville’s Funky Soul Band Starts on Sunday afternoon. 55 SOUTH MUSIC FESTIVAL

SATURDAY, HOTEL ST. VINCENT

The St. Vincent boutique hotel in the Lower Garden District is hosting a boutique music festival on Saturday. The third annual 55 South Music Festival – named after the highway between New Orleans and Chicago – brings together artists from both locations for a concert and DJ-led afterparty. 55 South begins at 4:30 p.m. with live performances in the hotel courtyard tortoiseThe Kumasi Afrobeat Orchestrathe “proto-trance” jazz quintet SML and “psychedelic world twang artist” Gitkinmost of whom are affiliated with Chicago’s International Anthem Recording Co. The event continues with the Chicago house music legend’s Afterglow Dance Party from 10:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the hotel’s Evangeline Hall Chez Damier Plus Shaun J Wright and New Orleans’ Quickweave And mucus. Tickets are $20 for the main stage performances, $10 for the afterglow party, or $25 for both, plus fees.

The Outdoor Broadside Hosts “The Coven: Full Moon Ritual” A witch’s evening with a super group with a female front consisting of Debbie Davis, Arsene DeLay, Kimberly Kaye, Mia Borders, Miss Sophie Lee, Lilli Lewis, Dayna Kurtz, Bunny Love And Priestess Tiffany Monique. They will be accompanied by “some men playing instruments” in a program of popular rock, soul and funk songs written by, for or about “witchcraft in all its forms.” The “Full Moon Ritual” includes blessings led by priestesses, a remembrance of departed souls, and local vendors selling witchcraft merchandise. “Heavenly costumes and/or coven-appropriate clothing” are encouraged, but not mandatory. Tickets start at $32.

The Palm Court Jazz Banda band in need of a home after the Palm Court Jazz Café closed meets with singer at Snug Harbor Yolanda Robinson for shows at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ($30).

The acceleration Jams at Tipitina’s Bakey’s Brew Opening ($12).

The Outdoor Broadside presents “Temps Petit: A New Orleans Tribute to Tom Petty” with Steve Kelly, Michael Fouquier, Mark Hempe, Noah Young and more. Show time is 8:00 p.m. Tickets start at $22.

Nouveau soul singer Maxwell returns to the Smoothie King Center with supporting programs as part of “The Serenade Tour”. Jazmine Sullivan And October London. Tickets start at $54 plus fees.

Two feet plays a sold-out show at Tipitina’s.

Singer-songwriter Radney Foster holds court at Chickie Wah Wah. Tickets start at $25.

An exceptional drummer from New Orleans Herlin Riley presents his quartet at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at Snug Harbor ($40).

Countercurrent recreates 1980s arena rock hits at the Rock ‘N’ Bowl ($10).

Jason Marsalis plays vibraphone alongside the bassist Jason Stewart for two performances as a duo at Snug Harbor, at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ($30).

Cajun bandleader Bruce Daigrepont hosts its monthly Fais-Do-Do dance party at Tipitina starting at 5:15 p.m. ($12).

MONDAY

Spend an evening with Michael Mayo at Chickie Wah Wah. Tickets start at $25.

You holy souls brings his “Live For You Tour” to the Fillmore; Tickets start at $47 plus fees.

comics Sebastian Maniscalco And Jim Gaffigan are scheduled to co-headline the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on February 20th.

In March, Gaffigan headlined the Saenger Theater. Maniscalco played the Saenger in 2021 when it reopened after the pandemic lockdown. By joining forces for what is officially titled “Jim Gaffigan & Sebastian Maniscalco: A Night of Comedy,” they are able to play the much larger Smoothie King Center.
