Freshman Boogie Fland scored 17 points in his collegiate debut and No. 16 Arkansas’ defense made the difference in the Razorbacks’ 76-60 victory over Lipscomb on Thursday in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in the Razorbacks’ season opener.

It was Arkansas’ first game under coach John Calipari.

The Razorbacks led by 11 points at halftime and 15 points midway through the second half before Lipscomb got within 60-56 with just under eight minutes left.

Arkansas was then bailed out by Zvonimir Ivisic, who hit a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired and added the three-point play to extend the lead back to 10 points with 5:54 left.

From there, the Razorbacks marched to the finish line as Lipscomb went more than seven minutes without a field goal until breaking the series with 41 seconds left.

Johnell Davis added 15 points for Arkansas (1-0), while Ivisic had 12. The Razorbacks shot 56.7 percent from the floor despite making just 4 of 19 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Jacob Ognacevic led the Bisons (1-1) with 16 points, with Gyasi Powell and Will Pruitt each scoring 12 points. Lipscomb made just 38.7 percent of his field goal attempts.

Both teams were largely back-and-forth in the first half, with the Bisons holding a 17-12 halftime lead after a three-pointer from Joe Anderson. Arkansas took the lead with an 11-0 run, fueled by a three-point play and layup by DJ Wagner and a smashing dunk after a steal by Trevon Brazile.

Lipscomb was more than up to the challenge and was able to get within 25-23 after a basket by Anderson from outside the arc with 6:30 minutes left before halftime. The rest of the half belonged to the Razorbacks, who extended the lead to 39:28 at the break with a 14:5 run, punctuated by a 3-pointer and a subsequent dunk from Karter Knox.

Davis led all scorers before halftime with nine points, while Ognacevic led the Bisons with eight points. The Razorbacks outscored Lipscomb 51.5 percent to 37 percent in the half and forced 11 Bison turnovers, which Arkansas turned into 14 points.

The Razorbacks extended their lead to 15 points when Brazile converted a missed shot by Fland with 15:07 to play. Arkansas still had a 15-point lead before the Bisons scored 11 straight points, capped by a jumper from Logan Suber with 7:47 left.
