Singer and actress Nicole Scherzinger appeared to express her support for Donald Trump in a comment she posted – and later deleted – on the Instagram account of inflammatory entertainer Russell Brand on Thursday. Fans and supporters of Scherzinger, who currently stars in Broadway’s “Sunset Boulevard,” reacted largely negatively to her expressed interest in purchasing a red MAGA hat.

Scherzinger commented on a photo of Brand wearing a red hat that read “Make Jesus First Again.” He posted the photo on Tuesday celebrating Trump with the caption “God bless America.” The hat is designed in the style of Trump’s red “Make America Great Again” hats.

“Where can I get this hat!!!?” Scherzinger wrote next to the prayer hands and heart emoji.

“Nicole Scherzinger has been dressing up as a liberal all these years, while here she is commenting on rapist Russell Brand’s post like a full-blown conservative pick-me-up girl,” she wrote @mihailo____ on X, formerly Twitter.

Scherzinger’s performance in “Sunset Boulevard” was praised by critics and fans alike, many of whom have touted the actress as a potential Tony winner for the show – something many fans joked could be up in the air after Thursday’s backlash.

“In recognition of Nicole Scherzinger’s lost Tony chances, the St. James Theater has announced that it will be dimming its lights on November 7th,” @OnstageBlog humorously posted on X.

“I would really like to know what part of Trump’s platform Nicole Scherzinger supports,” OnstageBlog also wrote on the platform. “Because I’m pretty sure it’s not his stance on capital gains or military spending. I’m also pretty sure her “Sunset Boulevard” classmates, her crew, her hairdressers, her hair and makeup team, and her theater staff, whose lives will suffer irreparable harm at the hands of this administration, would also like to know .”

Others said they have no current plans to see “Sunset Boulevard.” As @PieceDeReSister put it, “Finding out today that Nicole Scherzinger is a Trumper doesn’t upset me because I don’t really care about her. But strangely enough, I’m just so tired of watching Sunset Boulevard.”

Another theatergoer offered a solution: Those who want to see the show can do so on the nights when Mandy Gonzales appears instead of Scherzinger.

Some also suggested that perhaps Scherzinger had no intention of supporting Trump, but rather that she simply liked a hat whose style was clearly reminiscent of one of his most famous expressions.

“I really don’t give people the benefit of the doubt BUT – I don’t think Nicole Scherzinger is coming out as a Trump supporter – I think she’s just an annoying Christian,” tweeted @MediumSizeMeech.

Representatives for Scherzinger and “Sunset Boulevard” did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
