Nick Saban Subtly Acknowledges Finebaum’s Dark Mood: “With Paul, You Only Have to Lose One”

Alabama’s season has been something of a roller coaster ride for Crimson Tide fans.

A win over then-No. 1 Georgia was followed by a loss to Vanderbilt and a less comfortable win against South Carolina. “College GameDay” analyst Nick Saban has no doubt that coach Kalen DeBoer will win over fans, but he pointed to an immediate reaction when a team loses. And yes, Paul Finebaum’s name came up.

“I can’t make any predictions about people’s patience in the future, but in Alabama they don’t have a lot of patience,” Saban said during his weekly appearance Friday on “The Pat McAfee Show.” ” “You have high expectations. You can’t get involved in that. You just have to focus on what you have to do to make the team play as well as possible and not let it affect you.

“That’s one of the things that I think allowed me to not lose my mind while I was there. We were criticized every time we lost a game. I can’t tell you how many times I heard Paul Finebaum say this was the beginning of the end. I mean – but that was never the case, but he said it many times. You just have to lose one game with Paul.”
