NFL referee penalized for missing the most obvious penalty of the season on the Texans-Patriots

Being an NFL referee isn’t the easiest job. The plot moves pretty quickly and the pressure of the job must feel like a lot. So while they should be commended for their work, they should also be taken to task a bit if they overlooked an obvious decision that anyone watching the game could have taken.

That’s what happened during Sunday’s Texans-Patriots game when Houston’s Mario Edwards Jr. grabbed Antonio Gibson’s face mask on a play early in the third quarter and nearly ripped the running back’s head off.

The commentators legitimately couldn’t believe the referees had missed this, because look how obvious it was:

What made matters worse for the Patriots was that Drake Maye fumbled the ball away on the next play, which then led to a TD for Houston just moments later.
