NFL mailbag: Players available at trade deadline, potential moves, Chiefs needs

We all know that Tuesday, November 5th will be a landmark day in the United States of America – as the NFL trade deadline ends at 4 p.m. that day.

Yes, I’m aware of the other thing too.

It’s clear that NFL teams got ahead of the deadline, as Davante Adams was traded to the New York Jets on Tuesday.

And hours later, the Buffalo Bills stepped up and traded Amari Cooper in a deal that looked like a similar move but was made with a very different motive and approach.

This week’s All That And A Bag Of NFL Mail focuses on the NFL trade deadline and what could happen leading up to it:

Who is available and who is looking?

Q Armando, Which players are available on the trade market? Give them all to me, I know you know.

—Lou The Nose, New Port Richey, Florida.

A. Dear Mr. Nose, Let me just say that based on your signature, I get the impression that you were probably familiar with the Ravenite Social Club at some point. Just a hunch.

In any case, I don’t know every single player currently on the trading block. Neither the NFL nor individual teams have released a comprehensive list. But I know some players whose names are being discussed.

Let’s start with DeAndre Hopkins of the Tennessee Titans.

It would be smart for the Titans to move on if they could get a solid asset (draft pick) in return since Hopkins is on an expiring contract. He is 32 years old. And not only are the Titans not winning anything this year, they also need more opportunities to maximize Calvin Ridley’s offense since he hasn’t been scoring lately.

The Jets are looking to release WR Mike Williams and DE Haason Reddick.

Reddick is shopping for a team

They just traded for Adams and it makes sense that they’re trying to get something back for a Williams who didn’t quite fit in and whose role is about to become less important.

I have to say that it makes sense for the Los Angeles Chargers to explore a return for Williams for perhaps a sixth or seventh round pick. Yes, I know, Joshua Palmer, Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston are there.

But the Chargers could be a playoff team and it doesn’t hurt to add a player who has chemistry with QB Justin Herbert.

Reddick is being shopped around the league by his agent, who has received permission from the Jets. The Detroit Lions, who just lost Aidan Hutchinson to a horrific broken leg, seem to make sense as a landing spot.

By my count, four players have been traded so far this month, Mr. Nase. I expect there will be more by November 5th.

By the way, many teams are looking for support on offense.

Chiefs need WR help

Q. Dear Sir, Is there any chance for my Chiefs to enter the trade market and add a wide receiver? We need one.

-Lance

A Hey Lance, my pronouns are actually “Dear Genius,” so please address me that instead of “Dear Sir.”

Yes, just kidding.

Look, I understand. The Chiefs’ wide receiver room was much larger at the start of the season than it is today.

That’s because Marquise “Hollywood” Brown will miss the entire regular season due to a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery. Brown could return at the end of January.

And Rashee Rice is out for the season after undergoing surgery to repair his posterolateral corner, which occurred a few weeks ago, according to OutKick medical staffer Dr. David Chao was the problem.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has been working to find help. The team’s public position is something like that we have enough talent to move forward.

But privately, the human resources department is working to find help.

The easy help to add now is Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who played in Kansas City two years earlier and was just released by the Bills.

I believe the Chiefs want to do better.

The aforementioned Hopkins could be an option in a contract restructuring.

Q

Back to your country?

A. Dear Phil, I know there are still people like you. I didn’t think you would be so ignorant and bold as to expose yourself publicly.

I’m not going to explain to you why America is my country. People like you don’t deserve an explanation.

I’ll pray for you, boy. You need it.

God bless.
