NFL DFS Tournament: Week 1 (Fantasy Football)

Footclan, we did it! Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season is finally here and I couldn’t be more excited to dive back into the DraftKings tournament landscape with all of you. After months of analyzing player moves, new coaching schemes, and offseason storylines, it’s time to put our knowledge to the test. As a former Milly Maker winner, it’s my mission to share the strategies and insights that worked for me and give you the edge to achieve the same life-changing victory. Let’s get ready to dominate Week 1!

There’s a unique advantage we can exploit in Week 1 – uncertainty. Without recent game data, ownership projections can be less reliable, and that creates opportunities to get ahead of the game. My first tip is to embrace the unknown by targeting players in new roles or offenses with potential, while others stick with familiar names. Another key is to take advantage of player usage in the preseason – coaches often reveal how they plan to use certain players. And finally, avoid investing too much in chalk plays. Audiences tend to focus on high-profile matchups, but Week 1 is the perfect time to take advantage of lesser-known pivots that could break through.

With those tips in mind, let’s take a look at my favorite players from week one.

Each week I discuss my preferred stacks for crowded tournaments, ways to gain an edge on the field, and any other considerations specific to the tournament slate.

Slate-specific thoughts

Game of the week – Jaguars @ Dolphins (MIA -3.5, O/U 49)

It’s no secret that the Jaguars vs. Dolphins game will be one of the most popular matchups on the slate. With two explosive offenses and playmakers all over the field, this game has tremendous shootout potential and will surely draw a lot of attention. While we just talked about the importance of being different in Week 1, that doesn’t mean we have to avoid the high-profile players entirely.

The Dolphins were one of the NFL’s most pass-heavy offenses in 2023, ranking at the top of the league in pass attempts per game. With Tua back at center and Mike McDaniel’s aggressive play, expect Miami to get going early and often. That opens up plenty of opportunities out of the backfield for Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and even De’Von Achane.
