New York Jets: Top performers in Week 2 according to Pro Football Focus

The New York Jets confirmed their offseason performance last Sunday, defeating the Tennessee Titans 24-17.

As you can imagine, this means that several members of the New York Jets played well. Who were some of the best players in this win according to PFF?

On offense, the top five rated players based on their overall grade were as follows:

  • Center Joe Tippmann: 83.6 (57 snaps)
  • Left tackle Tyron Smith: 80.8 (57 snaps)
  • Wide receiver Garrett Wilson: 74.4 (55 snaps)
  • Right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker: 72.5 (57 snaps)
  • Running back Breece Hall: 72.0 (41 snaps)

On defense, the top five rated players based on overall grades were as follows:

  • Inside linebacker Jamien Sherwood: 82.7 (54 snaps)
  • Slot cornerback Michael Carter II: 77.3 (30 snaps)
  • Inside linebacker CJ Mosley: 75.4 (16 snaps)
  • Cornerback Brandin Echols: 73.3 (66 snaps)
  • Safety Tony Adams: 70.3 (66 snaps)

Perhaps most notable is the play of Jamien Sherwood, who stepped in after CJ Mosley was injured. Not only is this relevant for this season if Mosley (or Quincy Williams) is out, but it also gives the Jets an opportunity to find a long-term successor to the inside linebacker position as Mosley ages. Likewise, Brandin Echols has done an excellent job filling in for the injured DJ Reed and may also provide a successor to the cornerback position should the Jets decide to trade Reed to save some salary cap space.
