NEW YORK (WABC) – First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright is negotiating her exit from the Adams administration and could leave as soon as the end of the day, sources tell Eyewitness News.

Wright is Mayor Eric Adams’ deputy.

The home she shares with her husband, schools Chancellor David Banks, was searched by authorities and her phone confiscated before Adams was charged with fraud, bribery and accepting improper campaign contributions.

It was announced this week that Banks will step down from his position on October 16, months earlier than previously expected.

For Adams, his more immediate problem lies with public opinion, as his approval ratings were low before the indictment.

A Marist poll in New York City found that 69% of New Yorkers believe the mayor should resign, including 71% of Democrats. And 80% say he should not run for office again, while 30% say he should serve out the remainder of his term.
